AMIEN stand for 'Advance Minimally Invansive Endovascular
& Neurointerventional' Unit. The Interventional services in the department
of Radiology, HUSM have been started since 1987. This service was pioneered by
AP Dr Nurul Azman Alias and Dr Mahayidin Muhamad. In 2001, the interventional
service is continued by AP Dr Mohd Shafie Abdullah with the help of Dr Adam
Pany as visiting Consultant.
Currently, this unit is man powered by 5 radiologist, 10
angiographers and 4 dedicated staff nurses. Each day, there will be 6
postgraduate students that will assist the procedures. The component of AMIEN
are Bi-plane Angiography machine, MR-High Intensity Focused Ultrasound and
Radiology Clinic. On top of that, this unit has Thrombectomy Angiojet machine,
Dedicated Ultrasound machine and Clotting Time machine. For the purpose of
training and education, this unit is also equipped with Simbionix
Angio-Simulator machine and Tanberg Video-Conferencing facility.
Our unit is supported by various discipline in our hospital
such as Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic, Nephrology, Oncology, Gastro-enterology and
Vascular. AMIEN also has established networking at the national and
international level with other institutions. We have good collaboration with
our fraternity in interventional radiology with local universities and
goverment hospital.
At the international level, we have good networking with
interventional institution in France, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore
and Yemen. We hope that AMIEN unit will be the center of excellence in the
future for education, services, training and research.
