Asyura porridge @bubur asyura is thought to resemble closely the first food that being cooked on land after the Great Flood of Nuh. When Prophet Nuh safely landed in his ship after the great flood on the 10th of Muharram. Once safely landed, Prophet Nuh ordered his people to gather whatever food they have to be cooked to cater for everybody.
Kelab Kopi Radiologi had successfully held a programme of preparing bubur asyura on saturday, 6th October 2018 at Azahadi's house, our senior radiographer. Let me thank you first to Azahadi and his family for their kind support and
generous to us.
Bubur asyura is a kind of food made with various mixed ingredients in celebration of the Month of Muharram. So the bubur asyura that we prepared for this occasion can be different from one state to another. This Kelantanese style Asyura porridge, made using ingredients like rice, corn, eggs, sugar, brown sugar, spices, green peas, sweet potatoes, coconut milk, garlic, ginger, lemon grass, salt, meat curry powder, kerisik (freshly grated toasted coconut) and fresh meat (cut into small pieces..... boil the meat with some water for 1 hour then shred the meat with your fingers).

How to cook Asyura Porridge - kelantanese style:
Boil the rice
with water in a large cooking pot until the rice begins to swell and add all the ingredients as above. Continue to boil and keep on stirring over medium heat until all
the ingredients mashed and the porridge thicken. It took about 8 to 10 hours to be
prepared….. to become thick, dark colored texture with spicy taste.
List of participants |
We started at 7.00am and finished by 3.00pm, and all member of Kelab Kopi Radiologi were involved in making the event a success. With the aim to strengthen the relationship… we have struggled to work together to provide materials for preparing the bubur asyura.
Presently, making the bubur asyura is part of a kelantanese community ritual during the the month of Muharram. They will contribute either money or the ingredients to make the bubur asyura. The cooked bubur asyura will be then given out to everybody especially to the poor and neighbours.
