Sheikh Saud al-Shuraim was born on 19 January 1964 in the Capital of Saudi, Riyadh. He was raised in orphanage during childhood. As well as being an Imam and Khateeb of the Grand Mosque, Shuraim is also a researcher in Fiqh, Judge, and an author of Aqeedah and Islamic poetry.

 

Sheikh Saud Shuraim began his career at Areen Elementary School, then moved to middle school. He memorised the Qur'an and became Hafiz whilst at Al Yarmouk North School, from which he graduated in 1983. He continued his career at the college of `Usool ud Din` at 'Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University' in Riyadh (Aqeedah and Modern Madhahib) division. He graduated from the college in 1988, and proceeded onto the "Ma'had Al-'aali Lilqadhah" institute in 1989, where he was employed as a teacher. Shuraim received a Masters degree in 1992. Sheikh would lead prayers in the capital in 1406, including Taraweeh salah.

 

In 1991/1411, Sheikh Shuraim was made Imam and Khateeb of Masjid al Haram, by the order of late King Fahd. Sheikh led his first Taraweeh in the year 1992 It was in this period where his status was elevated, his voice capturing Muslims. A year later he was appointed Judge of the High Court of Mecca (Makkah), and also began teaching in the Grand Mosque. He pursued the Doctorate degree in the Umm Al-Qura University of Makkah in 1995.

 

Sheikh Shuraim is renowned for his smooth recitation style, having one of the most distinctive and unique voices, heard by millions. He is often considered amongst the best Qur'an recitors in the world. Shuraim is also a cousin of fellow Imam and Khateeb Sheikh Sudais, both of whom are from related tribes (family). Furthermore, Sheikh Saud Shuraim has written many books on Islamic Fiqh and Aqeedah, and poetry. Today, he is a recognisable famous figure in the Islamic world, continuing to lead in Masjid al Haram for the past 25 years.
