Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian,
Kelantan has made history by being the first medical centre in the world to
acquire two advanced direct digital radiography (DDR) x-ray machines worth RM3
million recently.
The machine is fully digital equipment that would provide
services to critical patients without the need to undergo x-ray procedures at
the radiology department.
USM embarks to be the pioneer in radiography technology,
which is in line with its motto to provide world-class medical services.
This advanced medical technology will enhance USM Hospital
to be the main referral hospital in the East Coast region.
The machines – Samsung model GC85A including one unit of
Transbay DDR, are also the first production in the globe by the electronics
manufacturer.
USM health campus director Dr Mafauzy Mohamed said the
Transbay DDR equipment would be placed at the resuscitation area while the
normal DDR unit would be located at the x-ray room, both at the hospital trauma
centre.
“The availability of the advanced Transbay DDR technology
will now allow two patients to be treated simultaneously improving the
efficiency of our specialists.
“The x-ray technicians are fully trained by Samsung and they
are well versed in handling the equipments.
“Samsung is also committed to provide expert assistance from
Korea should there be a malfunction,” he said.
Dr Mafauzy said the utilisation of the equipments proves
USM’s objective to lead in the medical technology world as per its motto ‘We
lead’.
He said USM would strive to offer the best services in
saving the lives of patients, adding that DDR can reduce treatment of patients
between 15 and 30 minutes.
